Begin was created to bring a sense of focus & simplicity to team tasking.
Task management software can feel heavy and bogged down. It's often hard to add tasks, keep track of them, and let everyone know what you're working on. Begin was created to help people focus just on their tasks for the day, while what they're working on next week fades into the background - alleviating stress over upcoming work.

One of the things we wanted to create with Begin was a sense of accomplishment. We did that by visually rewarding the completion of a day's task lists and by keeping the team updated in Slack every time a task was completed. In Slack a completed task was always rewarded with an emoji reaction, easily allowing the rest of the team to pile on the

Focus on today
Focusing on a task was accomplished one of two ways, either by using our natural language processing upon entering the task or by using the focus on this button.
Add tasks with Ease
We wanted adding tasks on Begin to be simple and available everywhere, so we created our own natural language processing. With Begin's NLP you could add a date with just a vague idea of when something needed to be done. For example, adding "next week" to a task would create a timeframe from M-F of the next week. This worked in both Slack and Begin, and we had plans to expand it to email, messaging and additional workplace collaboration platforms. Our AI would sort through this data and place tasks in your focus list when it was time to start on them.
Comments & iOS app
We were also working on building in comments and other team collaboration tools, as well as a iOS app, however none of these features and products launched before Begin pivoted.
After the launch
After Begin was launched I did some further exploratory work on some new features and simplifing the UI further. These changes centered around the ability to filter your view, add subtasks to task views and lists, and a profile page for team members.
